Handling People with Special Needs
Centaur Training won the Gold Award from the BMA in 2000 for the Handling People with Special Needs course.
This is the first and only course to be designed entirely for the needs of people working with Children and Adults with physical special needs and learning difficulties. It is the course that we at Centaur are perhaps most proud of as it has had a real impact over the years in the way that people view this very subject.
Right from the start the course re-drew the lines in the debate regarding inclusion and manual handling, unashamedly taking a social model approach, the course is as fresh today as it was when the original version was released in October 1998.
Handling People with Special Needs proved so popular that we have made two distinctly different versions of the course in a recent update. One catering purely for children aged between 0 - 19 which is used by most special schools in the United Kingdom as well as paediatric units within hospitals and childrens respite units within social services. The other version also covers Adults with special needs and has become a mainstay in numerous enablement organisations as well as Social Services. Both courses have received endorsement from the Disability Partnership
